SNOW DAY!!! :)

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Random Fact.

I hate all forms of precipitation. Yep, you got it...snow, rain, sleet, hail...all of 'em. Yes, I know we need them, but really? Me no likey.
Unless, however, a snow day is involved tomorrow morning. We will see, we will see...

A Case of the Mondays

I'm not going to lie, most mondays I have "a case of the Mondays." Unless I took an abnormally long nap on Sunday, I just wake up feeling like I don't want to do anything except shut my alarm off and go back to sleep. Some mondays I even contemplate actually doing just that, but then I feel guilty that I don't have a really good excuse like I was up all night puking my guts out or something equally awful.

Thankfully, I have a job that every morning at 8am gets me into the Word and in prayer. This morning I was forced to think of others who are in much more difficult situations and circumstances, and I was forced to get over feeling sorry for myself and my hatred of Monday mornings. Then, I was actually able to enjoy the rest of my day (with a little help from 3 cups of coffee...) and hopefully help others enjoy it too.

Do you ever forget why you love your job? Often times I need reminders. Today I was reminded of why I love my job when we celebrated a little girl's 1st birthday with princess cupcakes. At church, I keep pictures that the kids make for me posted on the wall behind my desk so I am always reminded of why I do what I do.

A recent favorite of mine:
"I turst God" from Reagan, a first grader

And an all-time favorite:
Dear Ms. Abay,
Thank you for not telling my dad that I was being bad.

Love,
Monroe

I need help.

I'm normally not one to complain about not having a man in my life, but you know, sometimes it would just be helpful. Sure, it would be nice for a number of reasons, but mostly for when I do stupid things. Like last night for example, when I was backing out of my driveway (I might have been trying to turn my iPod on and may not have been paying attention) and accidentally backed off the driveway and got little Gina stuck on a snowpile...and then you know, "he" could come and push me out rather than my 58 year-old father, on his birthday no less. Or like when I went to the store later on and decided I didn't want to take my cart out to my car because there was no cart thing near my car, so I thought it would be a good idea to carry a 24 pack of bottled water and all my bags out at the same time...I'm not sure what I was thinking. Or later on when I had a letter in my car that I needed to mail. By the time I got home, I had completely forgotten about it, so I turned my car back on, backed out of my driveway again, and drove back to the post office I already passed on my way home.

I'm just sayin...it might help me do less stupid things...or to do them less often at least!

A Night with Dick and Barb

For those of you who know my mom, she is nothing like me. She's very quiet and reserved. In fact, if you ask most of my friends, they will most likely reply: "she hates me!" Not that there is any validity to that statement (most of the time), but she's just so quiet, if you don't know her well enough, you might misread her. My dad on the other hand, well, he's a sparky sanguine to a T. Loud and brassy? Yep, you got it.

Tuesday night we were sitting at dinner, and Barb says to Dick, "Oh, you are such a smart as...alec!" haha! Dick and I then began to laugh hysterically and all Barb did was give a little smirk. Later on in the evening, my dad (who was over the Obama hype for the day) said, quite desperately, "I'll watch anything other than this!" Famous last words, padre. I said, "Good! I have the perfect Jane Austen movie we can watch!" I put in Persuasion, which I had just rented from the library and was one of the only Jane Austen books turned to film that I had not seen. He groaned throughout the entire movie, but I think he secretly enjoyed it. He was definitely getting into it. At the end he exclaimed, "Just kiss her already!!!" and then turned to me and said, "Abigail, if a guy ever takes that long to kiss you...slap him!"
